A statement from Florence Eshalomi:
A plan for more affordable housing for Londoners
Lambeth and Southwark are great places to live, but they’re becoming more and more expensive. Rents and house prices are rocketing, and the price of travel is going up every year under the Tories. It’s getting so bad that some of our neighbours can’t afford to stay here.
A person living in London on an average wage, paying the average rent, now pays nearly two-thirds of their total income on rent. This cannot go on. This election is a referendum on housing. For too long the Tories have failed to address the housing crisis that’s gripping our city. Too many people are spending too much on rent and are unable to buy their own home. Sadiq will deliver more affordable homes, 'first dibs' on those homes for Londoners, and action on rents to fix the housing crisis; the most important issue facing Londoners and their families today.
