As Mayor I’ll stand up for Londoners and freeze all TfL fares at 2016 prices for four years.
Transport fares are one of the biggest costs that many households face, and can be a major barrier to getting the best out of our city. That’s why we need fares that are fairer and more affordable.
We also need a transport system that evolves as our city evolves. We need a Mayor with a bigger vision of what we can achieve, including on airport expansion. As Mayor of London I will back Gatwick and deliver the projects we need to be a global city.
Action on fares
All TfL Underground, DLR and Overground fares will be frozen for four years, paid for out of existing TfL budgets and efficiencies. In addition, there will be a first-year cut and then a freeze in bus fares, and new ‘Hopper’ bus ticket – valid for any number of journeys in a full hour.
More rail services under TfL control
Sadiq will push for TfL to take on more London commuter rail services so that responsibility for all transport in London lies with the Mayor where it belongs.
Secure a funding deal for Crossrail 2 and review the route to ensure that it helps deliver jobs, regeneration, social inclusion and housing. Begin consultation about future rail services including Crossrail 3.
Business and boroughs centre stage
Ensure that businesses and London councils are given a central role in planning London’s transport infrastructure - not just for the next 20 years but for the next 50.
Sadiq will work with employers to enable more Londoners to work flexibly and move away from rush-hour travel.
Safer greener travel
Sadiq will champion new measures to encourage cycling and walking, while also making them safer, in order to relieve traffic jams and congestion at peak times. He will prioritise 'Quiet Ways' to broaden London’s safe cycle network, completing the roll out of the existing town-centre cycling improvement plans.
