A statement from Unmesh Desai:
Housing costs rocket under the Tories
London is a great place, but it’s becoming more and more expensive to live here. Rents and house prices are rocketing, and the price of travel is going up every year under the Tories. It’s getting so Londoners and their families can’t afford to stay here.
Housing is the most important issue facing Londoners today. A person living in London on an average wage, paying the average rent, now pays nearly two-thirds of their total income on rent. This cannot go on. This election is a referendum on housing. For too long the Tories have failed to address the housing crisis that’s gripping our city. Too many people are spending too much on rent and are unable to buy their own home. Labour will deliver more affordable homes, 'first dibs' on those homes for Londoners, and action on rents.
